In response to persistent concerns raised by Ghana Water Company Limited (GWL) officials in the Northern Region regarding voltage fluctuations at their treatment plants in Dalun, Yendi and Salaga, the Public Utilities Regulatory Commission (PURC) has commenced investigations to address the issue.
GWCL alerted the PURC to ongoing challenges with power fluctuations at their headworks, impacting the daily production of treated water for consumers. The situation has reportedly taken a toll on critical equipment such as soft starters, variable frequency drives, and pumps, necessitating the intervention of the regulatory body.
Acknowledging the severity of the issue, GWCL has called on the PURC to intervene and find a lasting solution to the persistent power fluctuations affecting their operations.
To gain a comprehensive understanding of the situation, the Northern Regional Office of the PURC has initiated a three-day regulatory monitoring exercise at the treatment plants in question. The exercise aims to collect first-hand and empirical information on the challenges faced by GWL in the Northern Region.
