NDC Masterminded the Violence at Busunu Queen Mother’s Funeral – NPP

In a shocking turn of events at the funeral of Busunuwurche at Busunu in the Damongo Constituency, the tranquility of the occasion was shattered as thugs allegedly affiliated with opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) disrupted the proceedings.

The NPP has condemned the incident and has called for the arrest of the perpetrators behind the violence which happened on February 15, 2024.

In a statement, Savanna Regional Secretary of the NPP, Mohammed Issah, said the disruptive actions, allegedly sponsored and orchestrated by NDC members from Tamale, included an attack on an NPP-branded vehicle and its driver.

Subsequently, military personnel on duty at the funeral grounds were openly attacked without provocation. The NDC criminals led by their first national Vice Chairman, Azoka, also attempted to prevent the government delegation from accessing the podium.

According to Mohammed Issah, the violence escalated as the thugs targeted indigenes of Busunu who were supportive of their Member of Parliament, Lawyer Samuel Abu Jinapor. Despite the chaos, the government delegation, including the Maverick Lawmaker, the Chief of Staff, the Savannah Regional Minister, and the Regional Chairman, managed to mount the podium.

Mr Issah alleges the former president, John Mahama, was present and seemingly overseeing the disorder, fueling accusations of his involvement in the disruption. In contrast, it praised Vice President and NPP Flagbearer, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, for his peaceful and respectful visits to the region.

The NPP strongly condemned the NDC’s conduct, labeling it as unacceptable in a region that is not a “war zone.” Mr. Issah accused the NDC of resorting to violence due to a lack of ideas and policies. It expressed the unwavering support of the people of Savannah Region for the NPP and its functionaries, vowing that such disruptive actions would not be tolerated in the future.

The Savannah Regional NPP called on the police to investigate the incident, identify the perpetrators, and bring them to justice. The press release ended with a warning, asserting the readiness of the NPP to protect the peace of the region by all means necessary, signaling a determination to prevent any future attacks on the people of Savannah Region.
