Following a Press Conference, a week ago, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has come under sharp criticism from the National Democratic Congress. The opposition party said the conference, addressed by Yussif Danjimah, the communications Director of the ruling party, was used to perpetuate falsehood rather than address the mirage of challenges faced by the Ghanaian people.
In a statement, a Regional Secretary of the NDC questioned the portrayal of Dr. Mahamud Bawumia in the Danjimah-addressed conference as a political exemplar, alleging that the Vice President’s actions were shady and his policies were repackaged lies.
Mohammed Abdul Salam indicated that the NPP has caused significant economic damage, pushing hundreds of thousands into poverty and contributing to a surge in inflation and youth joblessness.
He wondered why the NPP in the region did not use the interaction with media as an opportunity to apologize to Ghanains for the hardship brought on the country by the Nana/Bawumia administration.
Mr. Salam who targeted the Vice President directly, upheld a recent comment made by his party’s General Secretary, Fiifi Kwetey, in which he described the Flagbearer of the NPP as a disgrace to Northerners.
Mr Salam said the Vice President was indeed a disgrace as he has failed to live up to core Ghanaian values of humility and truthfulness.
The Secretary noted that unfulfilled promises by the NPP government, such as the failure to contribute $50 million annually to the Zongo Development Fund and the construction of model schools for Zongo communities as well as the imposing of burdensome policies on prospective pilgrims, leading to a significant increase in Hajj fees were some the reasons that made the Vice President unworthy of leadinna nation like Ghana.
Mr. Salam emphasised his party’s commitment to developing the northern regions, listing various infrastructural projects initiated and completed during the tenure of President John Dramani Mahama.
He also urged the NPP Northern Regional Leadership to focus on meaningful engagement on policy issues rather than recycling propaganda.
