Atubiga Leads Protest In Tamale Against Fiifi Kwetey For Unsavoury Remarks Against Veep

The leader of the National Liberation Council, spearheaded a demonstration in Tamale against Fiifi Kwetey, the General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC). The protest was prompted by Kwetey’s recent comments targeting Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, which were widely condemned for being disrespectful, provocative, divisive, and ethnocentric.

Atubiga, along with a group made up of students of various tertiary institutions in the Northern region, activists of the NLC and members of the public, marched through the streets of Tamale to express their displeasure with Kwetey’s inflammatory remarks.

The demonstration gathered momentum as participants carried placards denouncing divisive rhetoric and calling for unity within the political landscape.

A month ago, Mr Fiifi Kwetey accompanied his party’s presidential candidate to Tamale for a campaign tour. On a campaign platform, he reportedly described Vice President Mahamud Bawumia, as a liar and a disgrace to the North where he hails.

His comments sparked outrage across political circles and beyond, leading to calls for an apology and disciplinary action from within his own party. The National Liberation Council, led by Atubiga, took the opportunity to voice their concerns about the need for responsible and respectful discourse, emphasizing the importance of maintaining a healthy political environment ahead of election 2024.

During the protest, Atubiga addressed the crowd, stating that the demonstration was not just about condemning Kwetey’s comments but also advocating for a higher standard of political discourse.

He called on leaders from all political parties to prioritize unity and constructive dialogue over inflammatory language that could sow division among the public.
