Poisoning Claims is Disrespect to John Kumah’s Memory – NPP

Amidst ongoing controversies surrounding the death of Dr. John kumah, the New Patriotic Party has urged supporters of the party to desist from throwing about wild allegations that may add to the pain of the loss to the family of late Ejisu lawmaker.

Dr. John Kumah, a deputy finance Minister died on March 7, 2024, following a battle with an undisclosed sickness.

But shortly after his death was announced, videos began circulating on social media suggesting that Hon. Kumah, along with the celebrated Ashanti Regional Chairman, Chairman Wontumi, may have been victims of alleged poisoning during a campaign event in Tamale last year.

The incident reportedly occurred while the two were part of the team that accompanied Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia on a campaign tour of the Northern Region.

At a Press Conference held in Tamale yesterday, Mahama A. Sanatu, the Deputy secretary of the NPP, debunked the poisoning rumours and urged the public to show respect for Hon. Kumah’s memory and the sensitivity of his grieving family during this challenging time.

She however called for a thorough investigation by the Ghana Police Service to ascertain the truth behind the alleged poisoning.

She implored individuals propagating these allegations to provide concrete evidence and urge Chairman Wontumi, who allegedly survived the poisoning, to address the matter publicly.

The party’s concern is heightened by what they perceive as attempts by some quarters, including media personnel from the Ashanti region, to exploit the situation for political gain.

They assert that the National Democratic Congress (NDC) may be leveraging the incident as a propaganda tool, which further underscores the need for a transparent investigation.

In closing, the NPP appeals to the Inspector General of Police, Dr. Dampare, to prioritize and expedite the investigation to bring clarity and closure to the matter.
