Children Believe in partnership with government of Canada and NORSAAC, has officially launched the Championing Nutrition And Gender Equality ( Change) Project, at Radach Lodge And Conference Center, Tamale.
The CHANGE is a five(5) year project being implemented in Ghana and Ethiopia by Children Believe.
In Ghana, the Project is implemented in nine (9) Districts of the Northern, Savanna and Upper East region with Financial support of Global Affairs Canada.
The Overall goal of the project is to improve nutrition for poorest and most marginalized, especially women,Adolescent girls and children under age five (5) in Northern Ghana.
Delivery a key note address, the Northern Regional Minister, Honourable Alhaji Shani Alhassan Saibu, said, he was delighted of the launch of the project in Northern Ghana, on behalf of government, he expressed his profound gratitude to the people and government of Canada, Children Believe and NORSAAC for such a life changing initiative to resolve the malnutrition menace in the region.
He added that the recent demographic survey revealed malnutrition amongst teenagers and nursing mothers, he, thus ,described the Change project as timely intervention to reduce the malnutrition challenges in the region.
He commended the government of Canada for donating an amount of CD$7,170,018.0 (Ghc60,081,097.00) for the implementation of the project.
He urged colleagues Regional ministers, Coordinating Councils, MMDAs and other stakeholders to support the implementation of the project successfully.
The High Commissioner Of Canada to Ghana, Her Excellency Martine Moreau, disclosed that Canada is a long time partner in the socio- economic development of Ghana, particularly in the country’s Northern Regions.
She added that for more than sixty (60) years, formerly, through the Canadian International Development Agency, and now under Global Affairs Canada, it has worked alongside national, regional and district authorities to establish partnerships to improves the everyday lives of health, wealth and prosperity of some of Ghana’s most disadvantage citizens.
She mentioned some of the the interventions in the agricultural sector, water and sanitation that has contributed to the significant development advancement and tangible health results with some hundred and fourty seven thousand farmers across Northern Ghana increasing the agriculture production and more than doubling their incomes.
Additionally, some eight hundred and sixty five thousand people have gained access to safe water ,sanitation and hygiene infrastructure.
According to her, the support of the Children Believe Change Project, therefore ,affairms Canada’s legacy of partnership that is consistent with the aims and objectives of the project.
On his part, Aklilu Mulat, Board Chair, Children Believe, expressed special appreciation to the people and government of Canada for the generosity to fund the project.
In his closing remarks, the Chairperson of the Launch, Chief Kasuli Lana, makes a passionate appeal to the development partners, chiefs and individuals to support the implementation of the project to reduce the malnutrition in Northern Ghana.
Some of the stakeholders shared their Goodwill Messages ,and pledged to support the implementation of the Change Project.
