Northern Ghana Residents in Kentucky Hold Eid-Fitr Party to Foster Community Unity

Louisville, KY – In a heartwarming display of solidarity and community spirit, the Kentucky Dagbon Palace (KDAP) and the Northern Ghana Association of Kentucky (NorGha) joined forces to host a vibrant Eid-Fitr celebration in Louisville, Kentucky. The event, a collaborative effort between KDAP and NorGha, not only exemplified unity but also underscored the collective commitment to contribute to the advancement of Northern Ghana.

Addressing the gathered attendees, Kentucky Dagbamba Naa – Chief King Faisal Adam Issahaku reflected on the burgeoning Northern Ghanaian community in Kentucky, attributing its growth to the sister cities relationship between Louisville and Tamale, Ghana.

This bond, nurtured over time, has facilitated a remarkable increase in the Northern Ghanaian population within Louisville, now numbering close to 60 residents as of April 2024. The late former vice President, Alhaji Aliu Mahama made friends here in Louisville, where there first resident stayed, and eventually 90% of the population migrated through the first resident, who’s now the “Wulana” (Sualihu Mahama), Which a remarkable journey and a piece of history of the residents in Louisville.

A poignant moment of the evening came with a special prayer in honor of the Late Vice President, Alhaji Aliu Mahama, whose pivotal role in fostering connections between the two cities was acknowledged and remembered. It was his initial friendship networks in Louisville that paved the way for subsequent migrations and community expansions.

Chief King Faisal Adam also paid tribute to individuals such as Alhaji Haroon Cambodia, Alhaji Kojo Kareem, as well as past and present civic leaders on both sides of the Atlantic, whose vision, dedication, and leadership have been instrumental in nurturing the Louisville-Tamale relationship.

Encouraging active participation in the sister cities initiative, Chief King Faisal Adam urged community members to engage earnestly in activities aimed at strengthening ties between Louisville and Tamale, emphasizing the collective responsibility to contribute to the betterment of the community.

Mr. Iddrisu Abdul Razak, President of NorGha, echoed these sentiments, highlighting the importance of collaboration between Northern Ghana residents and the Kentucky Dagbon Palace in endeavors aimed at enhancing the Louisville-Tamale connection.

The celebration, orchestrated by the collective efforts of KDAP and NorGha, stands as a testament to the power of community collaboration and serves as a beacon of hope for continued growth, development, and solidarity among Northern Ghanaian residents in Kentucky.
