In a recent turn of events, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Walewale Constituency has found itself embroiled in controversy following a purported meeting held on May 2, 2024, at Wale FM Hall. The meeting, attended by executives, patrons, council of elders, and coordinators, was meant to address critical party matters.
However, the outcome of the meeting has sparked a wave of rebuttals from the party’s constituents. Wuni Yidana, the Constituency Secretary of the NPP in Walewale, has vehemently refuted claims made in a letter allegedly authored by the Constituency Chairman. The letter insinuated decisions were reached, particularly reaffirming the declaration of Dr. Kabiru Mahama as the party’s parliamentary candidate for the constituency.
Yidana clarified that no such decision was reached during the meeting. He emphasized the delicate nature of the ongoing litigation surrounding the constituency’s parliamentary primaries, which remains unresolved and pending before the High Court in Tamale. The court has set a deadline of May 23, 2024, for the party to report any potential amicable settlement regarding the matter.
Expressing concern over the actions of the Constituency Chairman, Yidana described them as contemptuous, potentially jeopardizing any chance of an amicable resolution. He urged party members to remain calm and disregard the purported letter, emphasizing the need for the party leadership to prioritize resolving the dispute within the court’s given timeframe.
Yidana underscored the importance of inclusivity, urging all stakeholders to be involved in the resolution process to ensure a satisfactory outcome. He emphasized the party’s goal of securing victory in the upcoming general elections, rallying support for both the presidential and parliamentary candidates once the dispute is resolved.
