The National Petroleum Authority( NPA) has held a sensitisation programme on the Cylinder recirculation model in Tamale.
The Cylinder Recirculation model system where a consumer brings an empty Cylinder to an exchange point in return for a filled cylider.
Delivering the Keynote Address, the Deputy Chief Executive Officer for NPA, Mrs. Linda Asante, said the negative effects of the smoke from cooking with firewood and charcoal causes heart diseases, cancer and eyes problems.
She stated the importance of LPG which doesn’t produce smoke when used for cooking. According to her, the misconception is that LPG is expensive, however, a research has shown that LPG is ultimately cheaper than charcoal because the diseases the smoke of charcoal causes has a dire financial effects.
She Adding the government of Ghana wants all Ghanaians to have access to LPG for cooking .According to her, the immediate target for the country is achieve a 50 percent access by the year 2030.
Mrs. Linda Asante in an interview with the media touched on the price of LPG , the process of accessing the Cylinder Recirculation Model, and safety measures to prevent accidental fires.
On his part, the Chairman of the event, Naa Bapre Zuggu- Lana , Prof Samuel Yakubu Naatogmah, Chief Of Zuggu, admonished the participants to embrace the Cylinder Recirculation model to reduce the negative effects of cutting trees for firewood and charcoal.
He also makes a passionate appeal to participants to desist from burning trees for firewood and charcoal. The officers of the Ghana National Fire Service also demonstrated to participants on how to quench Cylinder fires with fire extinguishers and water.
Some of the participants asked questions for clarity of the Implementation of the Cylinder recirculation model and officials of the Authority took turns to answer the questions.
