The Northern Regional Ghana Journalist Association, has launched the 2024 GJA Awards. The Award Scheme which is in its fourth edition is opened to all practicing journalists in the five regions of the North.
The event attended by Journalists, media practitioners and partners was launched at the conference hall of the Northern Regional Coordinating Council.
Delivery his speech, the Northern Regional Chairman of the Ghana Journalists Association, Mr. Yakubu Abdul Majeed, said, this year’s event will climax in 14th September 2024 to celebrate excellent in Journalism and to reflect on crucial role of Journalists in society.
He added that this year poses a unique challenge in the Northern region, As the general elections approaches, and the epicenter of national attention, with the flagbearers of the two dominant political parties hailing from Northern Region.
The situation underscores the immense responsibility that resets upon shoulders. He admonished Journalists to discharge their duties with the utmost care and diligence to maintain peace, before , during and after the elections.
He disclosed that it is with this in mind that they have carefully chosed the Theme for this year’s Awards, “Ensuring Voilence- Free Elections: The Role Of The Media “.
The Chairmanperson, Rev. Prof . Albert Luguterah, Council Member, Northern Region Peace Council, commended the association for projecting the region and promotion of peace, he ,thus pledged to support the awards scheme.
Speaking on behalf of the Northern Regional Minister, Guest Of Honour, the Northern Regional Coordinating Director, urged the media particularly those who sit behind the microphone, to stick to the professional ethics in order not to jeopardise the peace and stability of the region.
He described the Theme of the Awards not only timeous but appropriate as government and other stakeholders are working hard to ensure peaceful elections come December 7, 2024.
The Northern Regional Secretary of the Ghana Journalist Association , detailed the categories and procedures of the Awards.
