NPP Condemns Defacement of Campaign Posters in Tamale South

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Tamale South Constituency has strongly denounced the recent vandalism and defacement of campaign posters belonging to their Parliamentary Candidate, Alhaji Fuseini Musah, and Presidential Flagbearer, H.E. Alhaji Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.

The incident, which occurred during the Bugum Festival celebrations in the Northern Region, targeted banners along the Lamashegu Road and Tamale Teaching Hospital Road.

Notably, posters belonging to Honourable Haruna Iddrisu were left untouched, raising suspicions of targeted vandalism.

In a statement issued by the constituency leadership, the NPP characterized the act as “shameful” and attributed it to “irresponsible characters” within the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC).

They described it as a deliberate attempt to disrupt their campaign efforts without justification.

“We have taken this backward act as a deliberate attempt by an unscrupulous group of people within the NDC whose agenda is to cause mayhem and confusion,” the statement read.Despite the provocation, the NPP affirmed their commitment to democratic principles and pledged not to retaliate in kind. They emphasized the importance of upholding Ghana’s reputation as a beacon of democracy in the region.Under Ghana’s Political Parties laws, the destruction or defacement of campaign materials is a punishable offense. The NPP reminded the public that perpetrators could face fines or imprisonment upon conviction, urging the relevant authorities to investigate the matter promptly.”We vehemently condemn those who were involved and entreat them to put a stop to it to help strengthen the frontiers of our democratic values,” the statement concluded. The NPP’s stance underscores their determination to uphold fair campaign practices ahead of the upcoming elections, while calling for vigilance from all stakeholders to ensure a peaceful electoral process in Tamale South Constituency and across Ghana.
