The New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Sagnarigu constituency of the Northern Region has issued a cautionary statement to voters, urging them to remain vigilant against what they describe as “evil machinations” by the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC). This warning comes ahead of a rumored press conference by the NDC, scheduled for later today.
According to the NPP, they have intercepted a voice recording from an NDC WhatsApp group suggesting that the opposition party plans to accuse Felicia Tettey, the NPP’s Parliamentary Candidate for Sagnarigu, of plotting to rig the 2024 elections. The alleged plot involves bribing the police to neglect their duties during the election period.
The NPP has strongly denied these claims, which they believe will be made by the NDC at their upcoming press conference. They argue that a separate viral audio, which allegedly captures Felicia Tettey discussing bribery of security forces, has been doctored to misrepresent her.
Addressing a media conference this morning, Yakubu Abukari Afasco, a member of the NPP campaign team, dismissed the NDC’s anticipated accusations as baseless lies, designed to distract from the fact that the Sagnarigu Parliamentary seat is slipping from the NDC’s grasp. He criticized Atta Issah, the NDC Parliamentary Candidate, accusing him of resorting to falsehoods.
Afasco clarified that the “help” referenced in the viral audio was directed towards the NPP’s internal security team, who were responsible for protecting party supporters and mobilizing people during the voter registration exercise. He emphasized that the NDC had misunderstood or misrepresented this assistance as a bribe to the police force.
Speaking in defense of Felicia Tettey, Afasco urged the electorate to support her candidacy, highlighting her commitment to peace and development. He reaffirmed the NPP’s dedication to conducting free, fair, and transparent elections, stating that the party would not engage in any activities that could tarnish their reputation.
