Race4Aid Provides Literacy and Numeracy Training to Teachers in Nyankpala

The performance of Basic Schools Pupils in Nafaran and surrounding communities under Nyakpala in the Tolon District has been poor. In light of this and to enhance teaching and learning, Race 4 Aid, a nonprofit organisation, has organised a two – day in- Service training for Teachers and Proprietors in the community to enchance the performance of Basic schools especially Literacy and Numeracy.

The Participants comprising over 60 from 9 schools both public and private in the Nyakpala Zone. However, Five participants were from Gambaga in the North East Region

Speaking at a brief ceremony to climax the two- day Capacity Building Workshop in Literacy and numeracy, Alhaji Imam Mohammed Mutawakil Abubakari, the Municipal Chief Imam for Adenta, who doubles as Founder, Excutive Director for Race 4 Aid, disclosed that through the benevolence of Sheikhatu Maryam Bnt Ahmed, the workshop has been organised to compliment government efforts to improve teaching and learning especially in rural communities.

He disclosed that this is the second time such workshop has been organised to enchace the skills of the In – Service Teachers.

Alhaji Mutawakil Abubakari, the Municipal Chief Imam for Adenta, appealed to the Teachers’ to transferred the skills and knowledge acquired to their pupils to improve Literacy and Numeracy In the District.

Delivery a speech on Behalf of the District Director of Education, Mr. Alhassan Abdul Rashid Bangaham, Deputy Director , Planning, Ghana Education Service ,Tolon District, thanked Race 4 Aid for organising such a timely workshop to argument the government efforts to build Teachers capacity to Improve Teaching and Learning.

He admonished the participants to reciprocate the contribution of Race 4 Aid when schools resumes to improve the performance of students. He revealed that the performance of students in the district has been poorly especially in Literacy and Numeracy.

Some of the Teachers who Participated in the workshop expressed gratitude to Race 4 Aid, for collaborating with his Sheikhatu Maryam Bint Ahmed to organise and fund the workshop. They assured that the new skills learnt in the workshop would be transferred to their students to improve the performance in the District.

Race 4 Aid also donated teaching and Learning materials, Gifts Pack to the participants. The Theme of the Workshop: Building The Capacity Of Teachers’ For An Impactful Teaching And Learning.
