UDS Reassures Students of Academic Integrity Following Accreditation Issues at Study Centers
The University for Development Studies (UDS) has addressed recent concerns surrounding the accreditation of some of its study centers following a notice from the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC).
According to the university, agreements with GTEC are being finalized, and an approved list of study centers will soon be made publicly available.
Last month, GTEC identified UDS among three universities operating unaccredited study centers, with the School running 21 of these centers across Northern Ghana and the Oti Region.
The announcement by GTEC caused confusion among students, particularly those currently enrolled in the affected centers, many of whom expressed concern about the implications for their academic journey.
A statement issued by the Public Affairs Directorate has now clarified that the issues raised by GTEC pertain solely to the accreditation of certain study center facilities, not the university’s academic programs.
The statement reaffirmed UDS’s commitment to academic integrity and quality education. UDS is working closely with GTEC to resolve the issues, ensuring that all necessary accreditation standards are met.
Admissions for the upcoming 2024/2025 academic year will proceed as planned, UDS assured, with new students assigned to accessible study centers that meet GTEC’s criteria.
The university has pledged that these assignments will consider both the accessibility and the quality standards set forth in collaboration with GTEC.In its statement, UDS emphasized that current students will not be affected by the GTEC review, and their academic activities will continue without disruption.
UDS also highlighted its recent achievement as the fourth-best university in Ghana, as ranked by the Times Higher Education World Universities Rankings, viewing this recognition as a testament to its commitment to continuous improvement.
