Destiny Day: A Defining Moment for Ghana’s Future

On December 7, 2024, Ghanaians will flock to polling stations across the country, their fingers clutching the power to determine the nation’s future. This day, which for me is “Destiny Day,” will offer citizens a choice that is more than political—it is a moral, economic, and developmental crossroads.

The decisions made on this day will either propel Ghana forward toward progress or return her to the shadows of a regressive past.

Two Choices, Two Futures

For the electorate, the ballot will present a stark decision: a choice between good and evil, between progress and regression, and between hope and despair. On one hand stands the New Patriotic Party (NPP), led by Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, offering continuity, stability, and bold solutions.

On the other is the National Democratic Congress (NDC), whose recent conduct has been characterized by complaints about the Electoral Commission and baseless attacks on the judiciary, eroding public confidence in key institutions.

Instead of presenting Ghanaians with a compelling vision for the future, the NDC has sown seeds of doubt and mistrust, relying on wolf-crying rhetoric to galvanize support. This strategy not only disrespects the intelligence of the electorate but also weakens the very systems that sustain Ghana’s democracy.

A Choice of Leaders

The 2024 election is a contest between two men with vastly different records and visions for Ghana. Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, a proven technocrat, stands as a leader who has spearheaded over 33 transformative policies whose benefits are being enjoyed by the Ghanaian people. His tenure as Vice President has been marked by practical and realistic solutions aimed at improving the lives of ordinary Ghanaians.

In contrast, former President John Dramani Mahama’s leadership has been marred by scandals, arrogance, and a lack of innovative policies. His campaign rhetoric has often been divisive, filled with insults and empty slogans. His inability to manage key sectors such as energy during his tenure resulted in erratic electricity supply, a crisis that stifled industries and brought untold hardship to Ghanaians.

Policy vs. Promises

On Destiny Day, voters will also choose between practical policies and grandiose promises. Dr. Bawumia represents a continuation of realistic, impactful initiatives, while the opposition has pinned its hopes on vague and impractical proposals, such as a “24-hour economy” policy that lacks clear explanations or feasibility.

This is a choice between a leader committed to consolidating gains and one whose tenure was marked by institutionalized corruption and gross arrogance. It is a choice between humility and disrespect—a Vice President who has consistently demonstrated integrity versus a former President who has shown contempt for critics, including chiefs and religious leaders.

High Stakes

This election is about much more than party loyalty or ideological preferences. It is about the future of Ghana—about ensuring that generations to come inherit a nation that is thriving, innovative, and fair. The stakes could not be higher. Ghana must decide whether to continue the digital transformation that has made life easier for its citizens or to revert to a period of stagnation.

The country must choose whether to support a leader like Dr. Bawumia, who has been vouched for by well-meaning Ghanaians as a man of integrity and vision, or to risk the future on a “community husband” whose indecisiveness and questionable character have consistently undermined his ability to lead.

A Call to Action

As we line up at polling stations on December 7, we must remember the power we wield. This is not just an election; it is a moment of destiny. The choice we make will determine whether the country advances toward prosperity or slides back into the hands of mediocrity and corruption.Let us choose progress.

Let us choose leadership that serves the people, not one that rules over them with disdain. Let us choose Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia and the NPP—a government of integrity, humility, and vision. Destiny awaits, and Ghana deserves nothing less than a future defined by possibilities, hope and transformation.
