The Northern Regional Minister, Alhaji Shani Alhassan Shaibu, led a delegation, including the Northern Zonal Coordinator for SOCO and other officials, to commission the newly constructed ultra-modern SOCO Zonal Coordinating Office Block located at the Regional Coordinating Council (RCC) in Tamale.

In his address, the Regional Minister noted the challenges faced by SOCO at its inception, highlighting that the organization began its operations without a dedicated office, operating instead from two of the offices of Safety Net.

He emphasized the importance of establishing the new Zonal Office, citing its critical role in enhancing monitoring and coordination of development projects across the region.

Alhaji Shani Alhassan Shaibu described SOCO as a “game changer” due to its impactful projects within the region.

He reported that last year alone, SOCO initiated approximately 58 projects that supported youth programs, disabled individuals, and various social activities.

He also emphasized the significant employment opportunities generated for both skilled and unskilled individuals through these initiatives.

Mr. Kobina Forson, the SOCO Zonal Coordinating Office Coordinator for Tamale, expressed his gratitude to the Regional Minister for his unwavering support and contribution towards SOCO’s operations.

He highlighted that the organization has successfully completed numerous infrastructure projects and plans to commission more in the days to come.

Among the projects mentioned by Mr. Forson were the ongoing construction of AstroTurf in Zogbeli and the Livestock Market at Nag’begu, which is completed and set for commissioning soon.

He also urged local assemblies to ensure the swift completion of these projects to avoid potential sanctions.

The SOCO projects are funded by the World Bank, reflecting a commitment to improving social and economic development in the Northern Regions.
